Dinner With Friends

T and I live in a very small town, so small that people from anywhere but here stick out like a sore thumb.

But, T and I stick out like a sore thumb too.

We have made friends with the owners of a local Chinese restaurant and were pleasantly surprised when we were invited to dinner on Sunday.

They fixed up a fantastic meal!

In celebration of  summer, Mr. Haung prepared spring rolls filled with bean sprouts, bamboo, Chinese pickles and ginger. He also took the squash and zucchini that we had given them from our garden and prepared it with pork and a wonderful sauce (no idea what the sauce was but dang, it was tasty.)

It was one of the nicest dinners I’ve ever been to, even though we don’t speak Chinese and they don’t speak English very well. It takes a lot of patience but there was something that brought us together: sharing food.

Food is a wonderful thing because it brings people from different cultures, backgrounds and ethnicity together. Food is something that we all need and when shared, it’s even better.

How has sharing a meal impacted you and your friends, you and family? I hope that you’ve had great experiences that have brought you closer to your family and friends.
