Eating is NOT a privilege: It’s a RIGHT!

As a general rule Clean Your Plate takes no political stand point. But right now, I’m about to.

I’m angry.

I’m furious.

And I’m angry at our incompetent government and the people who perpetually put them into leadership roles.

Why the anger?

I am sick and tired of seeing headlines of people in the United States being hungry or being threatened with hunger. In the world’s “richest” nation, anyone and I MEAN anyone being hungry or threatened with hunger is UNACCEPTABLE.

This morning I read an article on Huffington Post that 1 in 7 senior Americans are facing the threat of hunger- that’s 8.3 million people. That’s someone’s grandma, someone’s grandpa, great uncle, great aunt-someone’s sister, mother, father- and it’s BS.

I’m going to throw some numbers at you about just how much Mr.  Barack Obama and president wanna be Mittens Romney have spent on their campaigns:

Obama: $196,900,097

Romeny: $87,452,399

Will someone please tell me how these men justify this when 1 in 6 people in America are hungry?

16 MILLION children in this country live in food insecure homes

8.3 MILLION seniors face the threat of hunger

49 MILLION in the US face so called “food insecurity” ( a politically correct way of saying HUNGER)

And yet these so called leaders have the audacity to spend $284,352,496 on campaigning!

How dare they.

For the sake of humanity and human rights I’m calling on anyone who reads this to do something about it: Whether you write your representative, make phone calls, donate to your local pantry, volunteer for Meals on Wheels or volunteer at your local food pantry- just do something!

  1. along with not eating we have a healthcare epidemic…50 million uninsured. probably many more under-insured. the debt from medical bills is a serious contributor the economic problems people face. In most other countries, you will not lose your house and your property if you become sick or have to make the choice between doctor and food. good topic. thanks for bringing it up.

    • I wanted to “like” your comment…apparently not an option. But LIKE! This topic has been boiling for awhile now and after I saw senior citizens are struggling with hunger I snapped. There needs to be a shift in our thinking- in what’s really important. Our health, our families-never mind the materialism of the government/nation. If the people are not healthy, the nation is not healthy, end of story.
