National Dessert Day: Chess Pie

It’s national something or other day every day. Today is National Dessert Day tomorrow is National Grouch Day. (I don’t know if the almighty they did that on purpose or if it’s just a bad joke…)

Anyway, in honor of National Dessert Day I wanted to share a favorite pie of mine that just happens to come from Grandma’s kitchen. This is an especially sentimental dessert to me. It comes from my Grandma’s kitchen and is a pie I used to make while working with my best friend Caitie Barker. May they both rest in utter bliss!

CHESS PIE

(as written on the recipe card)

Pastry for 8 or 9 inch pie

Mix 1 cup brown sugar packed

1/2 cup white sugar

1 TBSP flour

Beat in thoroughly:

2 eggs

2 tsp. milk

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup butter or margarine melted

Fold in 1 cup nuts

Pour into pie shell. Bake until set- about 40 to 45 minutes, 375 degree oven

It’s an old fashioned pie sure to warm the soul. On this National Dessert Day let us enjoy something simple, something yummy, share that with our loved ones and eat a piece of something sweet for those dear ones gone.

I love you, Grandma!

I love you, Caitie!
